Time History Analysis of a 3D RC ShearWall Building

Post by horizon »

Hi all,
I can run nonlinear time history analysis under an earthquake excitation with a 0.1g-PGA.But once I applied a relatively bigger ground motion it fails after a certain time step...Do you think that it because of the weakness of the structure? I mean the structure can stand with a certain level of ground excitation and after that level instablity occurs and nonlinear equations in each time step of the integration method cannot be solved.Program is terminated by itself...?
Please let me know what you think.
Thanx,
Ufuk

what does the force-deformation response look like?
how does it compare with the static response?

does the program crash? if so, please send me your script with the case that works and that that doesn't.

if you assign a zero tangent stiffness to a material you are bound to have some problems. try giving some post-yield tangent stiffness to your steel.
