Hello,
Viscous(oil) dampers are typically provided with a release value to bypass the oil during high force on the dampers. The force-velocity relation for such dampers is typically bi-linear i.e. high damping coefficient up to a certain threshold restoring force (linearly proportional to velocity), followed by a less steep curve (much like the bi-linear stress-strain curve of steel) . Can such force-velocity relationship be modeled using the Opensees viscous damper material?? I am aware that we can use up to one damping coefficient and power strain rate (alpha) in the model but was wondering whether bi-linear relationships can be modeled or not?
