is it possible to load an element in trapezoidal shape?

Post by SadeghSalimian »

Hi everybody. in some cases and problems sometimes I need to load an element in trapezoidal shape or in other cases I need to load only a part of an element uniformly like those are prevalent in commercial software such as ETABS or SAP2000. but in opensees I could not find it directly. I was wondering if someone helps me and shares his or her experiences to cope with this problem.
I wish some body finds a better way except for divide an elements into lots of parts.

eleLoad command only provides either point load (range option) or uniformly distributed load.

You can compute the fixed end forces due to the trapezoidal distribution and apply the fixed end forces to the nodes.
