Best continuous element for modelling a beam in bending

Post by aboufira »

I would like to model a simply supported beam with point load in the middle, but using continuum (quad or tri) elements. I have already tried using quad and tri31 elements but the results are not even close to the analytical result. I already asked some more knowledgable folks who claim that shear locking is common for quad elements. This would explain the discrepancy for the quad element but not for the tri31 element. Which continuum 2D elements in OpenSees are the best for modelling a simple beam in bending?
