problems on using save and restore command

Post by JAMINPARK »

Hi everyone

I am trying to use database/save/restore command to do an step by step time history analysis.

I compared the results of two types of analysis.

Analysis 1: Step by step analysis is not used Database/save/restore command is not used. All step is analyzed in single analysis.
Analysis 2: Step by step analysis is used. Database/save/restore command is used. Analysis for single step is performed and saved. Opensees is restarted. Restored. Analysis for next single step is performed.... Continued.

In Analysis 1, no convergence problem is occurred.
In Analysis 2, convergence problem is occurred after certain step.
But before the problem is occurred the results of Analysis 1 and Analysis 2 are nearly identical each other
and save/restore command is performed very well for several steps.

Except for save/restore command, every other options such as element, material, node are identical for both types of analysis.
What is the reason for the problem occurrence?

I've heard that some element or material do not support the save/restore command.
Is it maybe the reason for my problem??
I used dispBeamColumn element and concrete03, concrete04, steel01, steel02 material.

I am gladly waiting for your help. Thank you!!

the problem is not with the fact that the elements cannot save/restore, it might be that one of the materials is no doing it exactly right. you can try switchinig out the different materials with Elastic to see if you can isolate the problem .. they may never actually be the exactly same just due to roundoff as the order in which the elements get processed and added to the larger matrix and vectors is not necessarily the same on a restore.

Thank you for your reply

Maybe there is some problem on using save/restore command for concrete04 material model.

I checked that the problem was occurred only if I use concrete04.

For other material models, everything is well analyzed.

Am I missing sth or database/save/restore command does not work with "Corotaional" geomTransf?!

Thanks.
