p-y simple material

Hi to all,

I'm creating a geotechnical model for a buried structure. I'm going to model the soil elements with nd material and use zerolength elements for connection of soil and structure. Is it right to use the p-y simple material for zero length elements? I mean can I use p-y and soil elements in same time or while using p-y's we shouldn't model the soil?
