details about the recorder element out puts

Post by nahid2011 »

Dear Sir/Madam

Hi,

I'm using nonlinear force element in my model (cantilever column, the out put discussed below is about the element near the base)

we have different recorder options which are introduced below:

http://opensees.berkeley.edu/wiki/index ... mn_Element

I need some explanation about the meaning of:

basicDeformation
plasticDeformation
AND
inflectionPoint
tangentDrift

In my model the inflection point along the cyclic analysis is almost equal to 5.6, (the column height is 5.6)
I cant understand the output below tangentDrift command, two column out put first is sth similar to deformation the other one zero

the results for plastic deformation and basic deformation are almost the same and it seems that the results are presented in the integration points ... but I can not interpret them.

please help me

basicDeformation are for 2D element axial extension and rotations at the element ends from the element chord to the node tangent in the displaced state.
plasticDeformation are plastic components of the basic deformations
inflectionPoint should locate the inflection point of the element (point were banding moment is zero)

Dear Vesna
Hi
Thanks a lot for the reply.

1- About the inflection point I want to add that, the column (H=5.6 m ) consists of two elements (each H=2.8 m ) so again I cannot understand the output 5.62 for the first element near the base!

2- So is it correct that, with the element recorder command and "basicDeformation" order we can have the rotations (at the end nodes of element) and via section command of "forceAndDeformation" we can have the curvature in the various sections (which for the first and last section is the end points of the element)?

3- so sorry but you did not give any explanation about "tangentDrift" order in element recorder

best regards

1. The recorder for inflection point may not be working well

2. Yes. Just to confirm, the "basicDeformation" recorder gives you rotations of element ends relative to the element chord.

3. I do not know what it is.

Here is an example of using this recorder:
recorder Element -file mohsen.out -time -ele 1 tangentDrift

What is the output data? I mean, the first column is time, what about second and third?

Dear Mohsen in order to receive a response best way is to ask it under a new topic ... but first be sure to check the online manual of commands in the web site

Good luck
