Isolation bearing model w/ bi-directional behavior

Post by jpadgett »

Any suggestions for how to model an elastomeric bearing considering the coupled response - ie. a plasticity or Bouc-Wen type model that reflects the bi-directional coupling of the response (within a 3d model)?

I can't help you related to Opensees capabilities, but with respect to reference help, Prof.Fenves has been involved in this line of work.

Maybe the following paper can lead you to some other works.
Bidirectional modelling of high-damping rubber bearings
JOURNAL OF EARTHQUAKE ENGINEERING 8: 161-185 Sp. Iss. 1, 2004

I think he had a PhD student that worked on this subject 4-5 years ago or so, as well.
