Transient vs. VariableTransient Analysis

Post by dynaryu »

Hi,

I'm doing nonlinear dynamic analysis using OpenSees. I used to do it
with Transient Analysis, but I recently found that there is another
one : Variable Transient Analysis. So.. I'm not sure which one is
better (?) or appropriate for my case. Would you let me know anything
(cons. and pros. or something else ) about them ? Your help would be
greatly appreciated.

VariableTransient varies the time step in the analysis depending on the convergence rate .. if you are having convergence problems it can save you
hjaving to use a very small constant time step throughout the analysis.
