opensees large model limitation

Post by ag110 »

Dear colleague

I tried to run elastic eigen value analysis of a model but I received message"ProfileSPDLinSOE::ProfileSPDLinSOE : ran out of memory for A (size,Profile) (122
736, 1.68047e+008)
DirectIntegrationAnalysis::handle() - LinearSOE::setSize() failedDirectIntegrati
onAnalysis::eigen() - domainChanged failedmissing function argument at _@_
in expression "2*3.14/(pow(_@_,0.5))"
Can you please guide me what does it means? Does opensees have limitation in number of nodes or number of DOFs?

Best regards

How many nodes and elements do you have in your model?

opensees large model limitation

Post by ag110 »

Dear vesna

my model is a bridge with approximately 20000 nodes, 14 elastic beam column element and 22715 shellMITC4 for modeling deck, girders and cross frames.(my analysis is elastic eigenvalue)
please get me a solution
Best regards

Try using UmfPack solver for eigen analysis (set lambda [eigen -UmfPack 3]).

opensees large model limitation

Dear Vesna

I tried to use Umfpack system but receive similar message and analysis could not run.
Does node numbers have effect in this message?
or Does windows operating system have effect for run the program?

Thanks for kindly help

If you still see the same message, the only solution for your problem would be to reduce the number of nodes and elements.

Dear Vesna,

I have a similar problem but in my case, I do nt even get warning message! The software crashes and there is not choice just closing the program.

My model had first 52000 nodes in 3D space. Then I have started to run it but in modeling procedure, the programe crashed! Ten I have found this topic in OpenSees comunity and I have decided to reduce the size of the model. Currently, It has approximately 15000 nodes, the good thing is that the model is built but during eigen analysis, again the programe crashes without any warning! (I have tried -Umfpack for eigen analysis).

I want to know what is the limitation of OpenSees for modeling andanalyzing.
The next thing I want to know is that, crashing of the programe in this case is related to big size of model or something else.
Best Regards,
A.H.Arshian
