ConfinedConcrete01 Material

Post by Armin Tabandeh »

Hi everybody,

I appreciate if someone let me know about "ConfinedConcrete01 Material" arguments used for sections strengthened with FRP wraps. The arguments are "$cover $Am $Sw $fuil $Es0w" and also "-stRatio". The last two parameters of first group (i.e., $fuil $Es0w) sounds to be ultimate strength and modulus of elasticity of FRP materials. However, I am not sure about the first three arguments. In addition, my question about "$Sw" is for the case of using jackets instead of bands.

Thanks.

I do not know the meaning of the arguments you are asking about. Did you try looking at the references? You can also contact the author of the material and ask him directly.

I meant some input parameters of "ConfinedConcrete01 Material" related to -wrap section which are namely as "$cover $Am $Sw $fuil $Es0w" and also "-stRatio". Regarding your suggestion about contacting the developer, unfortunately I couldn't find any email of him and also I've tried to contact with some co-authors of related references who are not developers of OpenSees command but it didn't work. So, I'd be more than pleased if you could help me with this problem.

Thanks.

Did you try contacting these people:
Michele D'Amato (email: damato.mic AT gmail DOT com) and Newton Le (email: newle AT ucdavis DOT edu)?

Deat Armin,
If you have got any reply from the developer of ConfinedConcrete01, please write me on st109664@ait.ac.th. I got the same problem as yours.
Regards
Kiran

Hi Kiran,

This is what the developer told me about this material:

$cover is not the FRP thickness but the cover of concrete section (measured from the outer line of hoop).
$Am: total area of FRP wraps (is given by multiplying the FRP thickness by the FRP wraps width).
$Sw: spacing of FRP wraps.
$Es0w: elastic modulus of FRP wraps up to the rupture.

In the case of continuum wraps, width will be equal to $Sw. Whereas, in the case of discrete steel jackets $Sw will be the jackets spacing different from jacket width.

Armin.

Thank you very much, but what's the definition of "$mu' ? The ductility factor of the hoop steel?
:) If you konw the definition, would you plese tell me? Thank you!

-stRatio $stRatio is an optional parameter that takes into account the scale effect.
It is defined as the ratio of the column unconfined concrete strength (usually named fc0) to the specimen unconfined concrete strength (usually named f'c0).
This is due to the fact that unconfined concrete strength of a column is less than unconfined concrete strength of a cylindrical specimen.
