Damping

Post by yfeng »

When we define our structure with fiber model, rayleigh's damping is applied. However, since we are defining the stress-strain relationship, disipation of energy is taking acount but the materail property. How could we define the proper damping ratio out of that?

Thank you.

hysteretic damping is defined within the material behavior, yes.

Hi, Silvia,
Then the damping ratio we define in rayleigh's damping in our model represents the elastic damping only, right?

it represents the velocity-proprotional-damping ratio, yes.

Dear users

Frank said that different damping ratio could be assigned to different modes in modalDamping command, Does any one know how could it be possible? because the command is just: modalDamping $ratio

In addition, I want to assign different damping ratio to different region in modal damping, Does any one know how could it be possible?

Thanks
