zerolength element DOF

I'm interested in defining an interface between a quad and a quadUP element using zerolength element. It appears that opensees doesn't allow the end nodes of the zerolength element to have different number of degrees of freedom (dof). I don't want to tie the end nodes via equalDOF option. That said, is there a way to way to define zerolength element with end nodes having different dofs? Suggestion is much appreciated. Thanks.
