one question about using "uniaxialMaterial ReinforcingS
I modeled a RC bridge with one column bent in OpenSees. Initially, I used Concrete01 for concrete material and I used a combinatin of "uniaxialMaterial ElasticPPGap, uniaxialMaterial ElasticPP, and uniaxialMaterial Parallel" to obtain a elastic perfectly plastic model for reinforcement material for simpicity. Both static pushover analysis case and a case in which the structure was excited by a uniform earthquake ground motion finished well.
However, if I change Concrete01 to Concrete02 for concrete or if I use ReinforcingSteel to model reinforcement materials, I get converge problems in the static pushover analysis and the earthquake case as well. Especially, when I used ReinforcingSteel, the information I got is, "Set Trail <> - material failed in Set TialStrain<>; Large trial Compressive Strain".
I tried use more advanced and accurate material models for my study, but I failed. Could you help me solve these problems?
Thank you in advance.

try changing materials one at a time to see which one is causing problems.
The messages i see in your message i have seen with reinforcing steel. That's a contributed material and you'd have to contact the authors directly.
Have you considered hysteretic material for the steel? i love it!!!

I did change the material one at a time.
1. If I only change concrete01 to concrete02, my static pushover case is not converge and also the earthquake case failed after just several seconds.
2. If I remain concrete01 for concrete material and use reinforcingsteel for rebars, for both pushover and earthquake case I got "Set Trail <> - material failed in Set TialStrain<>; Large trial Compressive Strain" information.
I will try to contact the auther for problem 2. But do you know what happened to problem 1? I think Concrete02 is widely used by many people.
Thank you very much!

I think you have subjected the concrete to really high tensile strains, and it is giving you problems -- but your demands are unreasonable/unrealistic.
-- likely, of course.
try tracking it down to where this is happening and plot the moment/curvature and then stress/strain of where this is happening.
good luck with problem 2. again, i recommend you use the hysteretic material.

hi, Silva,
Thank you so much for the reply. I did contact the author about using Reinforcingsteel problem. He said this may due to converge problem in OpenSees or the strain is too large. So I try to track which reason causes my problem. Now here is my situation:
I modeled the column using nonlinearBeamColumn elements. I have 60 one-column bent bridges with different column cross section various in material properties and geometry. When doing 60 Pushover Analysis with Concrete01 and a elastic perfectly plastic model for the materials, most of pushover analysis can be done without any problem. However, almost 20 bridges gave me warning such as this:
WARNING ForceBeamColumn3d: update-failed to get compatibale element forces & deformations for element:2001 <dw:<<0.0242305, dw0: 7.29889+0.26>.
Although, eventually those pushover analysis with above warnings can still run through but some of them failed before they reach the displacement I defined. I am wondering how to solve this problem so that the Pushover Analysis can run through without giving such warnings. (BTW, I used the pushover analysis procedure developed by Silvia Mazzoni & Frank McKenna, 2006).
Another thing is, I found that for the case whose pushover analysis has warnings, if I change the steel material to ReinforcingSteel, it will gave me "Set Trail <> - material failed in Set TialStrain<>; Large trial Compressive Strain" information. So I think the converge problem causes the problem for using ReinforcingSeel. Can you please help me with the converge problem in Pushover analysis?
Thank you so much!!

I did not use ReinforcingSteel material now. I am sorry that I did not say it very clearly.
However, I am not sure how to solve the problem when I do the pushover analysis with Concrete01 material and a elastic perfectly plastic model (not ReinforcingSteel), it gives me the warning like following:
WARNING ForceBeamColumn3d: update-failed to get compatibale element forces & deformations for element:2001 <dw:<<0.0242305, dw0: 7.29889+0.26>.
Could you help me with this? Thank you so much!
