SCBF Example: rigid truss elements for beams

Dear all,

I have one question about the SCBF 2D example script available on the website. The model includes "rigid truss elements to assure that the beam nodes move horizontally together" provided between the beam nodes at shear tabs. I want to know the reasoning/principle behind this, why the beam nodes should be restrained to move horizontally together. If we remove these elements, the structural response is different. I would be grateful if somebody could throw some light on this.

they are accounting for the floor diaphragm .. suggest you do some more research on structural modeling!
