reduction rate for stiffness & force. KIKUCHIAIKEN MATERIAL

Post by aflo »

hi all,

I'm using the kikuchi bearing element in order to model the behaviour of elastomeric (HDR) bearings. As suggested by the opensees manual, I am using the Kikuchi Aiken uniaxial material for the shear springs. The model works but I can't understand the role of the reduction rate for stiffness ($rs) and force ($rf). The manual suggests to calculate this factors as a function of nMSS and nMSS. For example for nMSS=8 rs=0.25 and rf 0.1989.

Anyway, using the aforesaid values of rs and rf the behaviour is completely wrong....

Can you help me to understand the meaning of this factors and how to calculate them?
