Rigid beams in fiber modeling of RC shear wall (urgent)

Post by ToBeLignos »

I am modeling a dual system (SMRF with RC shear wall) in Opensees - (10 story)
i have question about modeling wall if i want to model it by fiber method,
i have used a nonlinearBeamColumn element in the center of wall and the fiber wall section is assigned to.
and rigid beams in both sides of wall connect these walls in each story to the beams in adjacent bays
how i should define these rigid beams? i have used ElasticBeamColumn and E is multiplied by 10. period of 1st mode is 0.71 and
when I multiply it by 100 result is very different, and period is 0.56 how I should define these rigid beams?

(my units are in N.mm, and A, E and I are in order: 6800 mm2 - 200000 N/mm2 -- 1.87e8 mm4)

Why is this "urgent"? You should start with a smaller model, understand the behavior, then scale up to larger systems.

Thank you very much for answering Mr mhscott
I wrote "urgent" because I have a little time for my thesis. :( :?

what do you mean? how I should understand by a smaller model if the rigidity is enough?

An element is effectively rigid, if the results from analyses with different E (eg. 1000E & 10000E) do not vary significantly. Usually, E=1000*Ec would be enough.
