How to assign damping to model...
Hi there,
Is it possible to involve viscous damping in structural models built in OpenSEES? Or the only way of considering deterioration is Rayleigh command?

Firstly, thanks for your comment. The links you mentioned are just for making, for instance, a viscouz material and may not be able to involve damping in the whole structural model. The only way I know to do so is the use of rayleigh command (that you mentioned as well), but I'm looking for another way to assign viscous damping to my model, not rayleigh damping model.

contrary to your opinion, definitely they can involve damping in the structure. You should know how to use them in the model and this modeling approach is more difficult than using Rayleigh command.
if you're looking for a simple method similar to rayleigh command, i would say No.
Behavior of the material is important and we can use them in different ways to achieve the desired goal.

Dear hnaderi,
I do not agree with you. If you read the instructions more carefully, you will see such materials can only be assigned to truss and zeroLength elements (this is explicitely mentioned as a note under the commands). Therefore, it seems that they cannot be used instead of rayleigh damping interchangeably.

Modeling is not limited and depends on your assumptions.
The methods of modeling is not mentioned in manual. You can use this elements (Zero length or truss or ...) in addition to the structural members.
researchers have used different methods for modeling the damping effect. Opensees is not a commercial program and you can do many different works.

There is no impossible nor limit! Maybe you are right. But this kind of modeling may need lots of creativity. However, many thanks for your comment on my discussion.
