self weight

Post by kadirtopcu »

how can I include self weight of elements in an analysis in opensees? especially truss element and displacement beam column element. do I need to use element uniform load seperately or does the element include self weight on it automatically?

In OpenSees, you should define the mass and gravity respectively, you should use uniform load or node load to define the gravity

for line elements you must provide the selfweight either as nodal or as elemental loads (if using 3d transformation for the element, they must be applied as nodal loads)
