foundation modeling

Post by javidsharifi »

dear all

I have two questions regarding the modeling of a structure with its foundation in OpenSees, I would thank you for your kind helps.

First, how should i model the foundation? in plain elasticity (2D) problems, is it ok to use element quad command to build the foundation? if yes, can the whole foundation be defined as only one quadrilateral element, or should it be descritized to more quad elements? how should the rebars of the foundation be defined?

second, how should the supports under the foundation be modeled? to model a foundation resting on soil, shall i define simple supports under the foundation? or is there anything special that need be done?

i genuinely appreciate your help and advice
looking forward to hearing from you,
behtash

There is a command called 'shallowfoundationGen' which can be useful for you:
