steel01 or steel02

Post by senior »

1)for modeling steel moment frame which material is better? steel01 or steel02?
2)what about bracing? i am modeling it with uriz and mahin model? which one is better? steel 01 or 02?

maybe you can just try both~ however, parameters are more important for these two materials~

they are both similar .. steel02 just gives a smoother transitions on loading and in unloading .. as a consequence there is the potential for less problems with convergence issues in the global model.

if you are pushing the frame into the nonlinear range you might also consider the hysteretic material, as both steel01 and 02 will continue hardening indefinitly if given a positive strain-hardening ratio, which is not realistic if the strains get big enough. but that depends on the model and the loading you are putting on it.

as for the bracing: the great Paxti himself used the Fatigue material with Steel02 .. you might want to look at this webinar

my analysis is nonlinear time history.
instead of using steel01 is it correct to use hysteretic material with no deterioration and pinching?
could they be similar?
in this way I will assign a limit for strain.

Steel01 and Hysteretic could be made to give exactly the same result if you wanted!
