what is changed for the domain if I do "analyze 1" with fail

Post by foxchameleon »

Hi All

I have a question on OpenSees as shown in the title "what is changed for the domain if I do "analyze 1" but if it failed with the following error message:

analyze failed, returned: -3 error flag

I think the domain is not changed, but I the following problem I had below confused me:

At a certain time step (state of the domain) after several successfully analysis steps, I continue to analyze 1 step more by "analyze 1", but the error message is popping out as above (returning -3). While, if I insist to run the model one more step by doing "analyze 1" again, it starts to work fine (returning zero) without any error message, and I checked that the domain is changed as I expected based on the some node displacements check. What do you think could be the problem?

nothing should change and it should fail again if you do the same analysis step.

Hi, Frank

Thank you. Yeah, that is what I thought, but I have a case which is not working as we thought. I am sending you the example I have by email. In order to repeat the problem I have, you just need to run the example and wait for less than one minute (with successful "analyze" for the previous steps), then try to analyze two more steps by doing: "analyze 1", "analyze 1", and see what we can get from these two trials. Thanks!
