ConfinedConcrete01 Material?

Post by popecl »

What is the definition of $mu (ductility factor of the hoop steel) for ConfinedConcrete01 Material ? Is it the ratio of ultimate strain to yield strain of the hoop steel ?
Thanks!

I would think so, but in the example it is set to 1000 which I find too big. The best would be to contact Michele D'Amato (damato.mic AT gmail DOT com) who has developed the material.

Deat popecl,
If you have got any reply from the developer of ConfinedConcrete01, concerning $mu definition, please write me on marlagiou AT yahoo DOT com.

Dear All,

Please note that Concrete01 can not capture the true behavior of RC columns and structures since it's missing tensile properties of concrete. That's why Jeong and Mahin have used Concrete02 to accurately simulate seismic response of a RC column on shake table and also Lee and Billiongton have developed a new material called "Concrete01WithSITC". If you only need the peak displacement of your structure, Concrete01 and consequently, ConfinedConcrete01 can be help. However, these two can't simulate displacement time history after peak displacement. Be advised that using these two materials can not give you displacement time history at all. To study better this issue please take a look at:

1) Jeong, HIL., Sakai, J., Mahin, SA., (2008). "Shaking Table Tests and Numerical Investigation of Self-Centering Reinforced Concrete Bridge Columns", PEER-2008/06, Pacific Earthq. Engrg. Res. Center, Univ. of California at Berkeley, California.
2) Lee & Billington, (2010), "Simulation and Performance-Based Earthquake Engineering Assessment of Self-Centering Post-Tensioned Concrete Bridge Systems", Pacific Earthq. Engrg. Res. Center, Univ. of California at Berkeley, California. [or download "Won Lee" dissertation at Stanford or their short papers in Jour. of Bridge Eng.]

Bests,
Mostafa

I have the same question reagrding assuming 1000 for the ductility factor. Also, when we define a circular cross section with confinedconcrete01, does the outer radius in the "patch circ " command include the thickness of the wraps?
