I get this error when runing a time history analysis
UniaxialMaterial::setTrial() - material failed in setTrialStrain()
Large trial compressive strain

what does this means?

it pretty much means what it says .. one of your materials failed setting a trial strain during the analysis. why? depends on the material and the strain history it has undergone. solution? probably you need to check your model and the inputs.

Could the problem be the cover concrete that is failing? but this shouldnt be happening rigth, it should fail til the core fails or the reinforcement.

i don't know .. it could be a number of things .. it is your model and the problem lies there!
