Aquiring strain rate

Post by heimweg »

Could you please tell me how to obtain real-time strain rates of an uniaxial member?

I am trying to add a rate-dependent material into OpenSees. To begin with, I ran a transient analysis on a simply supported bar subjected to cyclic loadings at a constant loading rate. However I found the variable "strainRate" in the "virtual int setTrialStrain(double strain, double strainRate)" varies with time and does not represent the actual strain rate. Then I tried calculating "(strain-Cstrain)/ops_Dt", but the result is still not correct. Is there anyother way to derive the strain rate?

Appreciate your help.
