LODING OF LEANING COLUMN

Post by ahadizadeh »

Dear
I met a problem 6 months ago but I could not solve it. I model a 2-Story Moment Frame with Panel Zones and RBS. I have used example codes in Opensees detailed in the following link :

http://opensees.berkeley.edu/wiki/index ... ment_Frame

I need some information about loading of P-Delta column (leaning column) in my project.
I have specifically two questions:

1) How many percent of the total load of each frame in each story should be considered as the load of leaning column? It seems that the load is the portion of the load this frame is responsible for. But the mentioned code in the above link do not considered the total load of each frame in each story as the load of leaning column whereas it is not obvious how many percent it is considered. Please answer me.

2) What is load combination considered as the load of the leaning column? Is (Dead load + Live load) considered as the combination load of the leaning column in each story or other combination of Dead load and Live load should be considered? Please answer me.

Would you please give me some information, paper or report about the modeling and loading process of P-Delta column?

Thank you so much.

Best regards,

Ahadizadeh

1) Leaning column should be loaded with the load of the gravity columns whose effects it is trying to capture.
2) I would use DL+LL combination

With the example you mentioned you will find reference that describes leaning column.
