Skew attack excitation

Post by e.izadi »

Dear Vesna
In conjunction with seismic evaluation of a 3D reinforced concrete structure using nonlinear time history analysis, is it possible to excite the structure in a special direction other than the global directions (1,2,.) ? On the other hand I want to apply the records in a direction which made a special angle with global directions!
One solution is to rotate all the nodes of structure using a transformation and then apply the records along the global direction, but it seems difficult and I am looking for a more simple explicit method!

Not sure whether you can apply excitation at an angle or not but you can resolve the excitation into two orthogonal components corresponding to global directions in matlab or so and then apply in OpenSees.

In opensees there is no option of applying the motion at an angle relative to global coordinate system.

The solution andreascj proposed is the way to go with.
