L shape column

Post by Beyhan BAYHAN »

Hi,

I am trying to do moment curvature analysis of an L shape RC column by using fiber section but I could not get any meaningful results. Is it possible to do it in OPENSEES? May there be problems with unsymmetric bending or do you have any advice about how to define an unsymmetric RC section with "quad" comments ?

Best Regards,

Beyhan

Beyhan,
Try to convert or trim the L shape into an I shape and recheck your results for the elastic response (in terms of Ix, Iy). Secondly, I strongly recommend you to check XSection's default coordinate system, which is different than regular cartesian.
Regards.

Note: Refer to "Quadrilateral Patch Command" in opensees user manual (i.e. y and z axes)

I think you mean to define a "general section", however, I will do nonlinear analysis. Your suggestion is valid for elastic analysis ?
