anyone has ever used OSP with opensees 1.7.3 ?
Apparently OSP works in combination of 1.7.1 properly and those .osp and .dis files are created without any problem but I cant generate neither .osp nor .dis files using 1.7.3 through OSP.

I have used OSP with OpenSees 1.7.3 but I have used it only to generate .eig files. Once the .eig file is created OSP reads it and provides a useful display of results.
I use a prewritten procedure modified from OSP to create these .eig files.
I am not sure, but I have found that recorder syntax written for previous versions of OpenSees are not compatible with the new version.
If you are not able to get any output in the .dis or .osp files check the code and perhaps try and rewrite the recorder section according to the user manual.
Let me know if you are able to get it to work... I never have played around with the .dis or .osp files in OSP.

Actually in 1.7.1 it is easy to create .dis file. I can tell you how to do so Mat.
But Frank, if OSP is not maintained anymore, is there any other visualizer software that can be used insted of OSP and does it have its capabilities such as its nice post processors through which I can visually watch the displacement animation(EQ viewer) or force deformation graphs for each and every elements?

I haven't really looked into using .dis files yet. I usually do not run OpenSees in OSP and therefore have not looked into creating the .dis files. It might prove useful in the future to know how to do it... Preferably we can figure out a way to make it work for version 1.7.3...
I currently use VEES to double check the geometry of my structure and look at deformations for quad elements and beam elements after loading. It provides a relatively easy-to-use visual postprocessing that is especially useful (and colorful) for quad and brick elements. Apparently they have added some new capabilities, I am in the process of looking into some of these new functions.
