Taking into account the friction

Post by enginbal »

Hi everybody,

I have RC surrounding frame and masonry infill wall. Between the coinciding joints of these two, I would like to model some frictional response (most probably by using zero-lentgh elements). However, the friction exists only if wall touches to the frame (compression only). Additionally, friction will be a function of the pressure between the wall and the frame. So, briefly, I need a uniaxial material/element imposing a varying frictional response, thus, having no friction in zero or negative pressure values. Is it possible?

Or, do I ask too much ??? :)

there is a tension/compression-only material.

I use this tension/compression-only material you mentioned to define a compression-only contact element between the wall and the frame; however, I need another element/material which will work perpendicular to the former and its yield will be a function of the force of the former.

i don't know if that's possible.
they only way to have bi-directional interaction is though the fiber section, i believe.

hi, enginbal

you may need friction contact element to do this. As far as I know, ops does not have this material model so you need to make your own material model.
