simple doubt

hi,
I want to ask a doubt
in gravity analysis we are applying a load in downward direction( means -sign will be use for defining the load) and getting a force in foundation spring elements in negative....i thing it should be positive because that reaction will be upward ????
what is the correct ??

following tradition, in zero length and truss elements tension is positive, compression is negative.
