What is the meaning of section deformation?
what is the specific meaning of section deformation? Is the hinge rotation revelant to it ?
where is the shear strain column ?
Section deformations are axial strain, curvature, shear strain, but not hinge rotation.
so, what are the three columns of data respectively I got ?
recorder Element -file $dataDir/ele111sec1.out -time -ele 111 section 1 deformation;
Are they :time, axial strain, curvature ?
Therefore, where is the shear strain you referred ?
How to record shear strain ?

Could you explain more?
Yes, the three columns of data you are getting are time, axial strain and curvature. In order to record shear strain you have to assign shear force-deformation relationship to your sections.
I donnot quite catch you, could you explain more?

Thanks~
You can not record shear strain if you did not assign shear force-deformation relationship to your section. One of the ways to do it is to use Section Aggregator command to assign shear force-deformation relationship to the section.
Oh, that's it. Thank you for your patience.

Re: What is the meaning of section deformation?
hello my friends
I have used this recorder for curvature
''recorder Element -file IDAoutput.out -time -ele 1 section 1 deformation;''
The format of output for this recorder is : axial-strain curvature
So why there is 4 column except time?
My model is 3D
output file:
0.02 0.000152875 2.8536e-020 -3.54615e-011 1.52334e-021
0.04 0.000152875 4.0899e-021 -1.71889e-010 1.52326e-021

Re: What is the meaning of section deformation?
Is it 3D analysis? If so, it's axial strain, curvature about local z, curvature about local y, twist angle
