Shear stiffness as a function of axial force

Post by Katrin »

Hi,

I would like to model the shear stiffness of a column element as a function of the axial load in the column. I think I would basically need a spring element which stiffness could be written as a function of the load in a different direction than the spring element acts; I could not find a way of modelling it. I was just wondering whether anyone has an idea if such a thing can be modelled.

Thanks for any help!

Thanks Silvia! I will check their publications.
I assume from your response that there is no obvious way of modelling such a thing in Opensees?

i don't know if ken elwood's element does that, but it is available in openesse, find it in the manual, it is called:
Limit State Material

in the contributed uniaxial materials
