approach for seismic analysis

Post by andreascj »

Hi fmk,
A very short question about seismic analysis.
is it true: no matter whether we give acceleration input for uniform excitation or displacement input for multiple support excitation, OpenSees calculates the displacement loading (from the integration of acceleration input) and applies it to the nodes specified?

integrated ground acceleration graph

Post by MOBenamer »

Hi

I am using a FE program that gives a deviated motion when acceleration input
is applied on the structure base. So the solution was to integrate the acceleration graph two times to get the corresponding displacement,
which is applied on the nodes that experience the ground acceleration.

You can verify this by running your program, and applying acceleration and corresponding displacement independently, and then compare the two results. Both must match closely.

I will find the integrated acceleration and send it to you, if you like, to run the program twice and get the results.
