steel frames

hi,

i am trying to analyze some simple steel frames and i want to record
the force at the occurrence of first plastic hinge and the total strength
of frame when the system became a mechanism.
please help me.

you'd had to do this in post-processing.

Hi,
what you have to do is first read the manual carefully, I know reading it may be time consuming but it defines all the concepts to define your model. Also you can look at the examples, which involves similar models to your model.

thank you for ur helps, sorry bcaz i am a new user and i don't have enough detailed informations about OPENSEES
please explain more about post-processing steps or other user guide or solved examples.

please review the user manual and use recorders to record data where you want it -- the critical sections.

Hi Hoda

Sorry, I saw your message this morning. I had some problems!

You know, I couldn’t find special tools in this regard. In fact, it seems that OpenSees don’t show plastic hinge formation automatically like some other finite element packages. So, I think you yourself should determine plastic hinge formation by checking the stresses or moments in the probable places.
