How to minish the residual displacement .
I'm doing nonlinear transient analysis of a scale ten story-three bay RC frame. The RC frame is a scale model conducted at the University of Illinois, Urbana (Cecen, 1979).The model was subjected to scaled ground excitations with 2.5 time compression of the 1940 El Centro accelerogram. The peak base accelerations of the three successive seismic inputs were: 0.36g, 0.84g and 1.6g respectively.
I modified the code of example5 in the OpenSees Examples to do this analyse. Before the peak acceleration the analytical and experimental results match very .After the peak acceleration ,there is very large residual displacement in my analytical result. But the experimental results doesn't have such large residual displacement. I use Concrete02 for reinforced concrete model and Steel02 for reinforcement.
I think the material mode has great effect on the residual displacement .Is that right?
I modified the material model but the result still doesn't match the experimental results .
I need your help.

wow, most people want more residual displacement.
try playing with the residual strength of the concrete, increase it.
also, try using hysteretic rather than stee02 if you do go to large strains.

Hello,silvia.
I tried hysteretic material instand of steel02 .The result is getting better at low accerlation level,0.36g.But during the moderate and highly intensity,0.84g and 1.6g ,the residual displacement is still large. The scale model is 90'' tall and width is 36'' . The displacement history even deviated to one side of zero axis. But experimental results did not reveal such large residual displacement . I am suspicious of the experimental results now.
Any suggestions ,silvia?
