Element added, We want to contribute

Post by pejman_opensees »

Dear Frank,

We have finally managed to compile our codes in OpenSees and added an
element of our own. The Element is TubularJointElement which is
capable of local joint flexibility inclusion in offshore structures.
We have also validated it by using more sophisticated FE codes such as
Ansys shell elements as well as some experimental observations. Coding
as well as compariosn results could be provided for further validation
by you. The element seems to be perfectly working individually.
However, there occurs a small problem whith element directivity esp.
once a large combination of TubularJointElements are employed.
We believe this may not concern element formulation and may be a point
in overall OpenSees stiffness matrix assembly. We think that you are
able to help us in this regard and we are prepared to provide you with
a documentation as well as explanatory examples stating the problem
more accurately. The examples we provided are quite consice and
expressive. Please let us know how we could further our contact with
you to contribute to OpenSees. Let us add that we also tried the Email OpenSees\[at]peer.berkeley.edu but nothing could be sent. Is there any alternative Email?

Thanks in advance,
Pejman

Dear Zhang,
Good to hear that. Currently, I am waiting for Frank to just give me an Email address by which I can send my files to him. As soon as he does so, I will report any bug and we will try to finalize the files. Then I will be able to contact with you for further share of information and experience.
