ERROR - Warning - ForceBeamColumn2d::update - failed to get

Post by Macedo »

Hi ,

I'm modeling a 2D steel frame with 5 storys and 3 bays.
Everything seems fine but but when the Analysis starts I get the following error:

"Analysis Objects Started
WARNING - ForceBeamColumn2d::update - failed to get compatible element forces &
deformations for element: 1(dW: << 784.173)
WARNING - ForceBeamColumn2d::update - failed to get compatible element forces &
deformations for element: 2(dW: << 695.09)
WARNING - ForceBeamColumn2d::update - failed to get compatible element forces &
deformations for element: 3(dW: << 695.25) (...)"

I'm using the following analysis procedure:
-------------------------------------
constraints Plain;
numberer Plain;
system BandGeneral;
test NormDispIncr 1.0e-6 10 0;
algorithm Newton;
integrator LoadControl 0.1;
analysis Static;
analyze 10;

I have read my code many times but I can't find what is wrong :( . Can you help me??

Thanks in advance.

if this is during gravity,
something is wrong with your model.
do an eigen analysis right away to check that your model is constrained properly, to start.

Dear Silvia,

I've done the eigen analysis and the model seems to be working correctly. I obtained the expected results, so my problem must be in the analysis procedure, but I can not figure out what it is?..

I send you all the analysis results message,

is this during gravity analysis?
if so, then check how/where loads are applied.

I have the loads apllyed in the nodes (nodal forces). I've done a test applying only one nodal force this way:

pattern Plain 1 Linear {;
load 9 0 50 0;
}

and it works...

but if I apply :

pattern Plain 1 Linear {;
load 9 0 500000 0;
}

it doesn't work..,

Do you know Why?

There is any convergence problem with very large loads? if so, there is any solution for this problem?

Thanks in advance.

of course there can be convergence problems with large load, it is difficult to converge a nonlinear model.
however, if this is gravity, your model should not go nonlinear.
otherwise, please look at the examples in the examples manual for script on how to deal with convergence issues.

Thanks...

Everything is working now...I found a units problem, that was amplifying the loads...

I have another question...

when I do a pushover analysis, if I want to know the sequence of plastic hinges and there location .. how can I do it? I have to analyze every potential hinge section to know?

Thanks in advance.
