Eigenvalues are not constant

Hi all. I have a problem with eigen command.

When I do eigenvalue analysis, why the eigenvalue change a little every time I run the program.

it does not happen with any example i have. can you psot the script if small or send it to me if large (fmckenna AT berkeley DOT edu)

Thanks for your reply.

It is a model of bridge, whose cap beam and girder (I used section Elastic to simulate them) have a large stiffness. So I assign them with a large E(Young's Modulus) ,G(Shear Modulus) and J(torsional moment of inertia of section).

I found the problem. If the Yong's Modulus is assigned a very large number, such as 1.0e+20, the eigenvalue change a little every time. And when I reduced the number to 1.0e+10, the program works well. But the eigenvalue became larger.

So could you tell me if I want the cap beam and girder have a very large stiffness. How large the number is enough to assign to E, G, and J ?

the problem is with your model .. rcond() for the matrix is appox 3e-22, i.e. the matrix
is poorly conditioned. this is cuasing all the eigensolvers i have (not just the default) to go crazy.

in matlab type help rcond .. if you don't have matlab google it.

As you know it is a simple model. I have checked my script. I cannot find the problem and figure out why this happened.

I think it is must the same problem which caused there is not deformation in the ModeShape with DisplayPlane.tcl and DisplayModel3D.tcl.

Could you please give me some advice?
