Why I got negative eigen value?

Dear all,

I am a newbie for opensees. I want to do a eigen analysis, but the problem is I got negative eigen value. Could you please help me?

likely, ill-conditioned stiffness matrix. meaning your system is not properly constrained. also, you should not have too many nbc elements in a row. you should use the displacement-based element for that.

But I have changed the element to dispBeamColumn, it does not work.

And I need to fix the bottom of the structure, so could you please give me some advice for the constrains conditon?

you need to provide enought constraints to remove any rigid-body deformations.

I have a 3D model without any eccentry. but my eigen value is negetive, and i can`t define rayleigh damping matrix according to moods frequency.
i use dispBeamColumn, i don`t know what is wrong with my modeling. please kindly help me?

There is something wrong with your model. Check connectivity of your elements, boundary conditions for your system and make sure that you do not have hanging nodes.
