Hi,

As far as I know you can not use Template 3D materials in plane strain or axisymmetric problems. Since QUADS are 2D elements you can not use Template3D with QUADS.

This means that all the materials in Template3D such as Von Mises, Mohr-Coulomb, Cam Clay etc. can only be used for 3D problems.

At the present time this is one of the major flaws in OpenSees for geotechnical applications since the materials for 2D plane strain is restricted to Von Mises or Drucker Prager. For axisymmetric problems the situation is even worse since the material is restricted to only Von Mises.

I hope somebody can correct me and tell me I am wrong.

Also, let's hope that this is corrected in the near future since it severely restricts the usage of OpenSees in geotechnical applications.
