Where do I start? or Which book should I read before?

Post by yassin »

Hi everybody, I'm new here :)
I'm a postgraduate student in Mechanics of Soil and Foundation in Tabriz University (Iran) and want to do my thesis in modeling with OpenSees, but I don't think to have enough knowledge about FEM/A, Numerical Modeling in Geomechanics or Earthquake Engineering, I'm a Java learner and think to learn Tcl easily but first of all I need to have some deep knowledge on Computational Geomechanics (we haven't studied anything about it at the university), so would you please help me with suggesting some books with deep look at Numerical Modeling in Geomechanics or anything that I should learn before to get my hand dirty on coding?

Thanks

Hello,

you may want to study this book:

http://sokocalo.engr.ucdavis.edu/~jerem ... eNotes.pdf

and then visit this site for opensees help and example:

operating system: Debian Gnu/Linux lenny 64Bit debian (DOT) org/

Thanks ebe79442114,

Sure I'm going to read both, but I think I need some basic knowledge about Finite Element Modeling itself. I know There is many FEM books out there, but I can't decide which one to read :( Many of them aren't appropriate for beginners.

Can anybody introduce me an FEM book in Geotechnics that will help me understand how OpenSees works and give me some basic knowledge on Computational Geomechanics (maybe I need to read two or more books)?

Thanks again,
Sorry I'm not good in English :)

Yes, the book by Boris Jeremic may not be suitable for newcomers to finite elements. You should take a look at this book: http://books.google.com/books?id=37PSts ... ngineering

I agree with rjaeger, the book by Boris Jeremic is not suitable, but just search google books you should be able to find some good ones.
