How does parallel and series material work?

Post by Sangwook »

Hi, everyone. I'm currently using parallel and series materials to merge some sub-components.

I have understood how each material works for my components, but I cannot find the equations how they can be combined in manual. Can anyone explain the geometric procedure for parallel and series materials for me? Thank you.

For parallel materials, strain (or displacement) is same, while the stress (or force) is same for series

Thanks for response. That means the stress in Parallel material is only sum up of the sub-components?
