damping ratio

Post by Shahir »

Dear Silvia
I have another question.
I want to model a SDOF structure resting on the soil layer. I want to define a damping ratio of 0.05 for the elastic beam-column element. But, I couldn’t find the exact way. Is it possible in OpenSEES? The only option that I could find for defining of damping is Rayleigh damping.
Thanks a lot.

look up the Region command, with this command you can assign demping to a specific region, such as the beam.
also, the reyleigh command assigns damping only to whatever elements have been defined up until that command, so you can do it that way, too.
