Hi,
I’m modeling a rocking timber wall on a timber base (not quite as rigid as steel or concrete base) so there is some compression deformation of the base at the wall toe. To model the rocking interface I’m using ElastiPPGap .
My two questions: 1- Is this the correct approach as far as the interface is concerned ?
2- how to model damping due to impact?

1. it has been used in the past, the EPPGap can have numerical issues alluded to in your second question
2. options here would be to detect gap and instead of using rayleight to damp out hig freq stuff due to impact use numericl damping, such as Newmark B>0.5, HHT or generalized alpha methods

Thank you for your reply. As an alternative way to model this, I was wondering if there is a different material type that you would recommend.
