Winkler Spring Shear Wall Model

Post by kovacsma »

Hello,

I have linked an image of the OpenSees model I am working on (actually a component of it, http://i.imgur.com/AaPlEAZ.png). I could use some more experienced feedback on the technique applied to this model. I am running pushover analyses and processing the data -- however there is one additional complication in my model (not shown here) that throws a wrench into my ability to process and understand the data... For the purposed of feedback here, I have kept the graphic simple, and the other model components can be ignored.

Anyways, as per this graphic (http://i.imgur.com/AaPlEAZ.png):
The moment carries through element 101 and should transfer entirely to ele 1002, inducing axial forces on the corotTruss elements (which are compression only). These essentially act as Winkler Springs.
The shear carries through element 101 and goes into element 1 which is a twoNodeLink with only a shear spring (elastic uniaxial material, E=GA_v). However, when I tabulate the shear forces at the base, I also consider the Global X forces from the corotTrusses, as they rotate.

Some expert feedback on this model would be extremely helpful.

Thanks very much

I'm still hoping for some feedback on this model. I will start by making it clear that I have built this model and tested it, and I am finding that some moment is transferred into element 1, albeit a small amount. So I don't think the purpose of element 1 is being achieved exactly -- I think another combination of elements and single or multi-point relationships can achieve the purpose here, which is to transfer base to the shear, while 100% of the wall moment is transferred to compression of the corotTruss elements.

Thanks again.
