Cable Material

Post by sjavadinasab »

Dear Prof. McKenna,

I recently have found a new material named "Cable Material" and I want to use it in order to simulate a single cable divided into some truss elements. However, I didn't find any general information about the specific characteristics of this material. Does this material include the effect of cable sag? The distribution of tension along cable is considered or not?

I modeled a cable made of 100 cable elements, but I couldn't see the cable hyperbolic(cosh) deflection due to its self weight. What is the effect of cable weight per unit length in static or dynamic analysis? Does the cable weight per unit length lead to cosh deflection of the cable?
