Viewing plastic hinges
Hello All, I have created a nine-story steel frame structure with nonlinear concentrated plasticity elements. The elements form plastic hinges at the ends once yielding has been reached with the help of zero-length elements. I followed the "MRF_2Story_Concentrated" example created by Sylvi...

Problem with ReadSMDFile.tcl
Hello All, I am trying to run all of my previous Opensees programs on a different computer, but when I try to run it on the new computer the ReadSMDFile.tcl is not re-writing the ground motion onto a ".ACC" format. A ".ACC" format file is created, but the file is empty. I have ma...

Running Multiple Ground Motions in Analysis
Hello All, I am trying to run two different ground motions in a time history analysis of a structure. The recorded displacements will be in two different output files. I am having trouble running the second ground motion once the first ground motion is finished running. I have tried putting "wi...

Re: question about yield moment
Hello, "Mycol" is the yield moment of the member. You can either calculate or look this value up for the section W27x114. If you look up W27x114 in the AISC manual you will find that the section modulus Zx = 343 in^3. My = Zx*Fy = 343 in^3 * 6 ksi = 2058 k-in. In the script they have 2e4 w...

Re: Failed Convergence Test
Vesna,
When you say change solution algorithm do you mean changing the type of algorithm I'm using to analyze? I am currently using "algorithm newton." I am assuming that I should choose one of the other choices in opensees.
Thank you,
David

Failed Convergence Test
Hello All, I created a three story frame with concentrated plastic hinges at the end of each element. I followed the example "Pushover Concentrated.tcl" http://opensees.berkeley.edu/wiki/index.php/Pushover_concentrated.tcl. Instead of applying a pushover analysis I used a Time History one....
