Serious Soil Issues Between v1.7.3 and v1.7.4
Alright, I am encountering some serious differences in opensees 1.7.3 and 1.7.4 with respect to PDMY soil models and PyLiq1 elements. What is this updateMaterials command? How is it different from the updateMaterialStage and updateParameter commands? I can find no documentation in the user manual, i...

I tried your suggestion... updateMaterials is definitely recognized by v1.7.4 but not the -refB parameter identifier (it appears). The message NO RESULT appears, and the parameter is definitely not updated. I tried some other values -B, -refBulkModul etc. but nothing seemed to work. Something is def...

updateParameter Problem with v. 1.7.4
Hey folks, I stumbled upon a possible bug with v. 1.7.4 Can anybody run updateParameter in 1.7.4.? Apparently the format.... updateParameter -material $tag -refB value is no longer valid in 1.7.4. It is looking for an integer first, not -material. I can run the same file in 1.7.3 but not in 1.7.4. I...

I'm not sure if this had to do with pore water pressures or what, I tried using quadUP elements and OpenSees still fails... I've made sure I've developed pore water pressure before updating as well... Not sure what I'm doing wrong.... If I update pyLiq1 to -stage 1 as soon as I run a analysis step t...

Yes, you are right, you need to utilize dummy nodes in your -ndm 2 -ndf 2 space. Put your dummy nodes at the same x,y location as your pile nodes but in the dof 2 space. Connect the zerolength elements from the soil nodes to the dummy nodes, then slave the pile nodes in 3dof to the dummy nodes in 2d...

The quad element is not compatible with a -ndm 2 -ndf 3 system. A quadUP element is compatible, with the third dof as pore water pressure. You may not need the quadUP element however, you might just want to use the quad element with the PDMY coupled with FluidSolidPorous in the -ndm 2 -ndf 2 space. ...

Lack of Color Function with Version 1.7.4
Alisa, I have experienced a negative consequence of using the new 1.7.4 opensees with vees. The color function used for seeing displacement gradients does not appear to be working. When the max and min color values are adjusted, however, it seems to take away elements with larger displacements as it...

You must create your 2D 2DOF Soil mesh first. You probably will want to apply gravity for the soil before creating your pile. Then call up the 2D 3DOF model builder and create your pile. You may then use equalDOF command to connect pile (with 3DOF) to soil mesh (with 2DOF) in the x and y directions....

Pejman, I haven't really looked into using .dis files yet. I usually do not run OpenSees in OSP and therefore have not looked into creating the .dis files. It might prove useful in the future to know how to do it... Preferably we can figure out a way to make it work for version 1.7.3... I currently ...

Don't know if these are official "release notes" but they tipped me off to the changes in all the different versions of the vees program.

Alisa, Couple of quick questions for you.. What kind of file is loaded by the load step window? Any type of file I try to load gives me an error message. I read in the release notes that the new version of OpenSees has a new recorder to work with vees. Does this have anything to do with the load ste...
