Re: Leaning Column
Hi... I am going to run nonlinear time history analysis on a few of my models. I am not sure which kind of structures need leaning column. As far as I understand leaning columns are needed when there are gravity column in a structure and in a 2D model we have to consider their effect. So I think we ...

Suppose that I have a beam with a uniform load.(w)
total weight on beam=wl
mass of each node=(wl)/(2g)
Is it correct?

Thank you for your reply. I've seen another answer for chord rotation from Frank here... http://opensees.berkeley.edu/community/viewtopic.php?t=20859 As you see Frank said that chordDeformation is the recorder for chord roation. What is the difference between chordDeformation and basicDeformation to...

Re: first plastic hinge
Hi...
I am not sure if curvature at the IPs is related to chord rotation.
FEMA uses chord rotation for evaluating plastic hinges.
I want to compare FBE rotations with FEMA criteria.
I want to know how does opensees calculate curvature and if it raltes to chord rotation?
Thank you

Re: Rotation of dispBeamColumn element
Hi niloufar
Do you think that I can compare curvature results (deformation recorder) to FEMA criteria?
FEMA considers teta @ teta plastic with chord rotation.

Re: Plastic hinges and forceBeamColumn elements
Hi... If Plasticdeformation records only plastic part of rotations why the results are not zero for elastic response of the element? (I have a recorder for stressstrain of fiber sections that have Fy=2400kg/cm2 to check when fiber section is inelastic) In other words if the stress in fiber sections ...

Thank Dear Vesna...
I could not find the posts about calculate elastic and plastic rotations from curvature at the integration points.

Hi...
I can not understand what does "fiber 0.1 0.1" do in this command?and for what 0.1 , 0.1?
recorder Element -file Element1_9StressStrain.out -time -ele 1 9 section 1 fiber 0.10 0.10 stressStrain

How can I decide about number of subdivisions in a fiber section?
Does it give better results If I model it with more subdivisions?
